The band influences folk, bluegrass, blues, rock, reggae, jazz, psychedelic plus a bunch of good vibes and you have "The Dead". Through the years the band line up had many changes. This is the line up of the band in the early days.
Jerry Garcia- guitar, banjo, vocals.
Bob Weir- guitar, vocals.
Ron Mckernan- organ.
Phil Lesh- bass.
Bill Kreutzmann- drums.
Here from the early days enjoy "New speedway Boogie"

They are unique, their live performances, long musical improvisation, just their vibe. I remember back in the day when you couldn't bring a camera or a recorder, and the Grateful Dead was the only band that let people bring cameras and record the show with no problems at all.
Here enjoy another great song "Fire on the Mountain"

The fans of the band are referred to as "Dead Heads" there is a sense of community that is very cool, before the Cd's I remember getting cassettes from different shows from dead heads that just check out each other tapes, some kick ass material of the band is in those dead heads cassettes, unbelievable. The band never care about anything but having a good time. I don't thing there's any band with more versions of the same song that the Grateful Dead. Here enjoy "China Cat Sunflower"

A lot of all those different versions was capture tanks to the tapers that constantly followed the band show to show, city to city and recorded a lot of material, is like the fans were on "tour" as well.
We all know that Jerry is resting in peace but the band keep touring first they used the name "The Others" and now they use again "The Dead" as a name.

Private Stock, Steely Dan.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK. Steely Dan another great American band, was formed in the early 70's by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, they met in 1967 at Bard College in Annandale on Hudson New York and became friends, they like the same music and started to write songs together and began playing in local groups. They released their first album in 1972 "Can't Buy A Thrill". I always love the style of the band, their unique sound is very enjoyable, here lets check out "Babylon Sister"

Their influences are Jazz, Rock, funk, R&B but the way they incorporated and blending everything in addition to the lyrics which usually are stories about them or things that are going on , drugs, parties or anything else but always have some kind of humor or a touch of sarcasm.
After the success of the first album they toured until 1975 when they became a purely studio band. Here enjoy another great song, "Black Friday"

They really KICK ASS, their musical arrangements with jazz structures, harmonies, chord sequences, horns, backing vocals and some great lyrics about anything from drugs, sex, rock'n roll always with a little bit of ironic edge in it.
The band breakup in 1981 and they reunited in 1993, they still rocking and touring all over. Lets enjoy "Aja" one of my favorite songs.

They are definitely one of the greatest bands of All Time, they sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, they earned a few Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, and in 2001 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
We have been enjoying Steely Dan music since 1972 and they still rocking they were touring this year and I hear that they are working on a new album for 2010.

Private Stock, Black Sabbath.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK and happy HALLOWEEN. Another GREAT band and one more of my favorites, Black Sabbath from England was formed in 1968 by four musicians:
Ozzy Osbourne- lead vocals.
Tony Iommi- guitar.
Geezer Butler- bass.
Bill Ward- drums.
When I think about Black Sabbath this is the only line up that come to my mind, but through the years the band's line up had many changes starting in 1979 when Ozzy was fired due to his heavy drinking lifestyle and replaced by Ronnie James Dio.
The first song that I ever hear from Black Sabbath was "Paranoid" and ever since they became one of my favorite bands. Here lets enjoy again that song.

Ronnie James Dio recorded a few albums with Black Sabbath and after him other great musicians went through the band Ian Gillan, Glen Hughes and Ray Gillen just to name some, but none of them could replace Ozzy that's way the original line up is the one and only Black Sabbath for me and for many people as well.
They are one of the most influential bands. They are unique, their sound and style using occult and horror lyrics give the band a dark reputation which is the base of their worldwide success. Here check out from the early days "War Pigs"

They have multiple awards and nominations The "Rolling Stones " magazine called the band the Beatles of heavy metal, Time Magazine called the album "Paranoid" the birthplace of heavy metal and one of the Top 100 Albums of All Time. VH1 said they are number two of their list of the 100 Greatest Artist of Hard Rock. Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. They still selling millions of albums all over the world, they have fun's young and old and everything between. Here enjoy this video from the early days "Black Sabbath"

There is no question of their Influence and Legacy. They wrote their name in the music History. Here is The Black Sabbath discography but don't forget that "Never Say Die!" from 1978 was the last album with Ozzy Osbourne on vocals.
1970- Black Sabbath
1970- Paranoid

Here lets check out "pinball Wizard"

The Who is definitly one of the most influential bands of the 60s and 70s. They have influenced GREAT BANDS, like: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, just to name some of many bands to claim that The Who had influencing their music in one way or another. The Who change Rock music with everything they did, their live performances were so energetic they were the first band to destroy their instrumens after the show and that became a tradition for a number of years.

"live at Leeds" from 1970 is considered by many critics as "the best live rock album of all the time".
These just to name a few of them. The Who wrote their name in the history of music.
Lets enjoy another great The Who song, "Who Are You"

In August of 1978 The Who released "Who Are You" their biggest seller, The band was at the top of their game having all this success. And then tragedy hit the band when in September 7 of 1978 Keith Moon died of an overdose of a prescribed medicine he was taken to combat alcohol withdrawal, it was very sad.
In 1979 The Who replaced Keith Moon and went on for a tour, the new drummer was Kenney Jones of The Faces. Here is The Who with Kenney Jones on drums performing
"Behind Blue Eyes"

The band kept going touring and recording with the 3 survivors when in June of 2002 before a US tour was due begin, John Entwistle was found dead in his room at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. To this day Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend keep touring and working together.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK. The Greatest Band of All Time, Led Zeppelin was formed in London England in 1968 by;
Jimmy Page- guitar.
Robert Plant- vocals.
John Bonham- drums.
John Paul Jones- bass guitar, keyboards, mandolin.
With all their success and achievements they have a special place in rock history. These are just some of their achievements;
January 1995- Inducted into the United States Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
November 2006- Inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.
November 1999- The "Recording Industry Announces Awards" Led Zeppelin were the third in music history to achieve four or more Diamons albums.
All of their studio albums reach the top 10 of the Billboard chart in the U.S.
Rolling Stone magazine has described Led Zeppelin as "the heaviest band of all time", "the biggest band of the '70s" and "unquestionably one of the most enduring bands in rock history".
They just awesome, here enjoy "Black Dog"

The band influences blues, hard rock, folk rock, Indian etc. Jimmy Page was playing bass with The Yardbirds and Jeff Beck was the lead guitar but he left the band in 1966 and Jimmy Page became the lead guitar of the Yardbirds. In 1968 the band was tired of recording and touring and they breakup in the summer of that year.
They were still committed to do several concerts and they authorized Jimmy Page and Chris Dreja the bass guitar to use the Yardbirds name to fulfil the band's obligations and this is how Led Zeppelin was formed, first Jimmy suggested Robert Plant for the singer who recommended John Bonham for the drums by this time Chris Dreja dropped out of the project, some how Jhon Paul Jones found out about the vacant position and contacted Jimmy Page who agree to bring him to play bass in the new Yardbirds lineup. They completed the Yardbirds obligations and later that year in November as Led Zeppelin they signed a contract with Atlantic Records.
Here enjoy this great song "No Quarter"

I still remember like if it was yesterday the first time I listen to them. Led Zeppelin 11 was my first Zeppelin album and after that I got Led Zeppelin 1 and just every time they released an album I got it right away from that point, they are unique, here another one of my favorite songs the "Rain Song".

In 1980 the band was preparing for a tour, they were at Jimmy Page house when
tragically on September of 1980 John Bonham died after a few days of excessive drinking, the cause of death was asphyxiation from his vomit. That was the end of Led Zeppelin they didn't want to replace him, they issued a press statement on December of 1980;
"We wish it to be know that the loss of our dear friend, and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were".
Almost 30 years later the band continues to be held in high regard for their commercial success and broad influence. The band has sold over 200 millions albums worldwide. Here lets remember the early days from 1969 "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You".

This is the Led Zeppelin Discography;

In the summer of 1983 Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released their first album "Texas Flood"

Stevie has been one of my favorite musicians since the release of that first album and the experience of see these musicians play at a live show absolutely memorable.
He play guitar write and sing the songs using his hands and his heart as well.
Here enjoy this song that Stevie wrote for his wife, performed live at "El Mocambo" this is "Lenny"

He played with some of the best musicians like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, BB King just to name some of them. In his own words Stevie want to play guitar from the heart.
That's why when you listen to his music, something happen to your skin.

Private Stock, The Doors.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK. The Doors was formed in 1965 by four musicians, Jim Morrison on vocals, Ray Manzarek on keyboards, John Densmore on drums and Robby Krieger on guitar. In 1967 they released their first album, "The Doors" and in 1971 after the tragic death of Jim Morrison they released their last album "L.A. Woman". They didn't have a long life but they are part of the music history and they were a very influential American band.
Here they were at the Smother Brothers comedy hour and this is "Touch Me"

Their unique sound come from Jim Morrison voice and Ray Manzarek Keyboards but Robby Krieger guitar and John Densmore drums were a big part of that sound as well.
They were original and unpredictable, a band with no bass player (in the form of a guitar) Ray Manzarek played the bass in his keyboards.
Lets check out this performance from 1968 live at the Hollywood Bowl.

There are lots of stories about Jim Morrison incidents on stage, he was arrested a few times for indecent exposure or shows were cancelled due to Jim's being way to drunk to perform and most of it is all true, he was out of control. He was a great musician and a poet that people fell in love with because the way their music make you feel, they did have that "special vibe".
Lets check out this 1968 performance live at the Hollywood Bowl "The Unknown Soldier"

Jim Morrison died on July 3, 1971 in his apartment in Paris, France at the age of 27 like a bunch of other famous rock stars that also died at 27 years old.
Jim is missed and resting in peace. The Doors Discography:

Private Stock, Traffic.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK. Traffic was formed in 1967 by four talented musicians from Birmingham, England.
Steve Winwood- organ, guitar, piano, bass, harpsichord and vocals.
Jim Capaldi- drums, percussion and vocals.
Chris Wood- flute, saxophone, organ, percussion, and vocals.
Dave Mason- guitar, mellotron, sitar, harmonica and vocals.
Traffic music have "something special". The way they wrote and performed, they were making music, they all could play different instruments, in the beginning it was a psychedelic sound. Check out from those early days in 1968 this performance in the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's "Goodbye Again" TV show, the song is "40 000 Headmen"

In 1969 the band breakup for a little bit and Steve Winwood with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Rick Greck formed Blind Faith. They released one album (excellent) tour once and breakup, here is a sample of that super group this is "Can't Find My Way Home" from 1969.

From the beginning they had problems with Dave Mason specially Steve Winwood. By 1970 the band reunited without Dave Mason and released "Jhon Barleycorn must die" definitely a successful album.
The band is more mature and from their psychedelic early sound they now incorporated jazz, folk and progressive rock. From 1972 lets check out "John Barleycorn".

Traffic has been always one of my favorite bands, they didn't have a long life mainly because of problems between Dave Mason and the rest of them but Steve Winwood more than the others and I feel that they did need him he was an excellent songwriter but they couldn't get along and that's way they formed in 1967 and breakup in 1974 for good. In this period of time they released these albums:
Mr. Fantasy- 1967.
Traffic- 1968.
Last Exit- 1969.
John Barleycorn Must Die- 1970.
The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys- 1971.
Welcome to the Canteen- 1971.
Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory- 1973.
On the Road- 1973.
When the Eagle Flies- 1974
All of these albums are really good and could be a great addition to anyone collection. Enjoy the music that's all for now and to end this edition of PRIVATE STOCK here is live from 1972 "Dear Mr. Fantasy".

Private Stock, Grand Funk Railroad.

Welcome to PRIVATE STOCK, one of the best "American bands" Grand Funk Railroad was formed in 1968, this was the original line up:
Mark Farner- guitars, lead vocals, keyboards.
Don Brewer- drums, lead vocals.
Mel Schacher- bass guitar.
In 1969 they released "On Time" the band first album. The power and talent of the trio gave them a unique style, their live shows were a different experience.
From those early days lets check out "Inside Looking Out"

In 1970 the band was very productive and they released three albums, "Grand Funk", "Closer To Home" and "Live".In 1971 the band released two albums "Survival" and "E. Pluribus Funk". They sold millions of albums, sell out shows breaking all records. Lets check out "I'm Your Captain" from 1971 at Shea Stadium in New York were Grand Funk became the second band to sell out Shea Stadium, the Beatles was the first band that sell out Shea Stadium.

In 1972 the band fired Terry Knight and hired John Eastman as the new manager, as a result a legal battle involving millions of dollars went on. The band was going through a lot of changes "Phoenix" was released that year. In 1973 the band added a keyboard player Graig Frost and they released "We're An American Band".
From 1974 lets check out the four men line up of Grand Funk, this is "We re An American Band".

Two more albums were released in 1974 Shinin' On" and "All The Girls In The World Beware!!!". In 1975 a double live album "Caught In The Act" was released. Highly successful until this point, they started to have problems, musical direction, leadership, I don't know maybe they were a bit burn-out. In 1976 the band released Good Singin', Good Playin", this was not a good album and Mark Farner left the band he was replaced and the band went on but I didn't really like any album after that.
From 1969 to 1975 Grand Funk was in the top, the quality and intensity of their music set them apart with the greatest musicians club.
To end this edition of PRIVATE STOCK lets check out "Heartbreaker" live from 1974.
